Professors
Dr. Adriana Fontes is a professor of the Biophysics and Radiobiology department at Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). She is also productivity research fellow of the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). Her research breakthroughs include the synthesis and application of quantum dots in life sciences. She has been recognized for his accomplishments, with awards such as young investigator award by European Haematology Association, Grant L`Oréal Brazil for women in science, honorable mention in Nanotechnology by Mercosur award 2010. Nowadays, she is a member of the national Institute of science and photonics technology and member of the Brazilian biomedical engineering society. Dr. Fontes received a bachelor's degree in physics in 1996 from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), MSc. in Physics from the same university in 1999 and Ph.D. in Physics from the UNICAMP in 2004. She began her career at the UFPE in 2006.
Dr. Giovannia Pereira is an adjunct Professor of the Department of Fundamental Chemistry at Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), since 2011. Her principal and current research line involve the development of bimodal contrast agents for optical imaging and MRI, based on quantum dots. She is also included in projects concerning applications of fluorescence quantum dots in photodynamic therapy and biosensors (for detecting of biomolecules, such as cardiac troponin). Dr. Pereira completed her graduation in chemistry (UFPE) in 2001 and she finished the doctorate in Biochemistry in the University of Coimbra (Portugal) in 2008.
Dr. Elisa Leite is an adjunct Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), since 2009. She has a Doctorate in Chemistry from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), Brazil, 2000.
Dr. Beate Santos is a senior researcher and a professor of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). Her research interests focus in colloidal systems, quantum dots, diagnosis based on fluorescence, synthesis and spectroscopy of complex and amorphous materials containing rare earth ions. Dr. Santos has also studied qualitatively and quantitatively the identification of illicit drugs, with the agreement signed with the Institute of Criminology of the Pernambuco State. She is productivity research fellow of the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and received some awards for works presented. Dr. Santos received a bachelor's degree in Chemistry (1988) at the UFPE, MSc. (1996) and PhD (2002) in Chemistry at the UFPE.
